The Ask-anything bar

2 min read

The Ask-anything bar sits in the top menubar on every screen — one place to look something up, ask a clinical question, or hand a task to your Rebrief assistant without leaving what you're doing.

Opening the bar

Press Ctrl+K (Windows) or Cmd+K (Mac) from anywhere, or simply click the bar. When it's empty it reads "How can I assist?" and shows a small ⌘K reminder.

Type your question and press Enter, or click the arrow button, to send it. Shift+Enter adds a new line if you're writing something longer — the bar grows as you type.

What you can ask

Two kinds of questions get answered in place:

  • Clinical questions — drug interactions, guidelines, risks — answered from the published medical literature, with citations. Each answer opens with a short Key Points card, and the small superscript numbers in the text jump to the matching source card below it.
  • Questions about the open patient — answered from that patient's own record. The source cards under a chart answer are the actual appointments the answer came from; click one to open that appointment.

The bar is for quick, in-context asks. For longer back-and-forth conversations with history you can return to, use the full Assistant page instead.

Suggestion chips

During an appointment, Rebrief listens for topics worth following up and files them as chips flanking the bar. Chips never search on their own — you skim them and click the one you want.

Each chip leads with a small icon that tells you at a glance where its answer will come from:

  • Globe — web evidence. Answered by a search of the medical literature.
  • Clipboard — patient chart. Answered from this patient's own record.
  • Cursor — agent task. Something the assistant does for you rather than answers — for example scheduling the next appointment, running a preauthorization, updating the hygiene recall interval, or drafting the aftercare message. You never need one for documentation: the note and chart are already being written for you as you speak.

Hovering a chip (or the bar while a chip is loaded) shows a hint naming its category and what a click will do.

Working with chips

  • Click a question chip to search it; click an agent-task chip to run it. Simple tasks like a to-do, a follow-up flag, or a message draft happen right away; tasks in your practice-management software are queued for the agent to carry out.
  • Press and hold a loaded suggestion (or press ⌘K) to edit it before sending.
  • A yellow outline on a chip — or on the bar itself — means its answer is ready; clicking reopens the answer instead of searching again.

Chips stick around for the whole appointment and clear when you leave it.

Note: Safety-relevant mentions — an allergy, a blood thinner, certain bone medications — are flagged immediately and answer automatically, ahead of everything else.
