Finding your way around

3 min read

Rebrief has two pieces of permanent chrome: a navigation rail down the left side and a slim bar across the top. Everything you do lives inside one of the areas you reach from these two places.

The left sidebar

The sidebar starts collapsed as a narrow strip of icons, so it stays out of your way. There are two ways to see the labels:

  • Hover over the rail (or tab into it with your keyboard) and it slides open, then slides shut when you move away.
  • Pin it open by clicking the small tab on the rail's right edge. Click the tab again to collapse it back to icons. When it's pinned, it stays open as you move between pages.

Each icon takes you to a different area of Rebrief:

  • Dashboard — your starting overview.
  • Patients — your patient list and individual charts.
  • Calendar — the schedule.
  • Appointments — recorded appointments and their notes.
  • Assistant — the full-page view of the built-in assistant (the same one you reach from the top bar).
  • Receptionist — the AI receptionist and its live availability.
  • Calls — your call activity.
  • Templates — your note templates.
  • Settings — your account and clinic preferences.

The area you're currently in is highlighted, so you can always tell where you are.

Note: Admin accounts see a streamlined sidebar with just Dashboard and Settings. If your menu looks shorter than a colleague's, that's why.

The status section

Below the navigation icons (on non-admin accounts) is a live status area:

  • New Appointment starts a fresh charting appointment.
  • A sync status row shows whether Rebrief is connected to your practice management software and lets you trigger a sync. This row appears when you're working in the desktop app. Hover it for the full detail, including patient and note counts from the last sync.
  • An availability row shows when your receptionist's live availability was last refreshed.
  • A Scribe row appears while the ambient scribe is on, with a colored dot when it's actively listening.

Tip: Hover any status row for a tooltip explaining exactly what's happening and what to do if something needs attention.

Support and the bottom of the rail

Near the bottom you'll find a Support button (the lifebuoy icon). Click it to open a quick support form that gathers the details our team needs to help you. Beneath that is Log out.

You'll also find Help Center and Live Support links in the page footer at the very bottom of any area.

The top bar

The top bar holds the Ask-anything bar — the rounded search field centered across the top of every screen. It's your shortcut to the built-in assistant: type a question about a patient, an appointment, or a clinical detail, then press Enter (or click the arrow) to send it. The answer opens in a panel right below the bar, and you can expand it to the full Assistant page at any time.

  • Press Cmd-K (Mac) or Ctrl-K (Windows) from anywhere to jump straight into the bar and start typing.
  • Press Esc to close the panel.
  • Click outside the bar to dismiss it.

Not sure where to begin? Click into the Ask-anything bar and Rebrief offers a few example questions you can send with one click.

Note: The assistant answers questions inside the desktop Rebrief app. If you open the bar in a regular web browser, it will prompt you to switch to the desktop app to ask about your patients, appointments, and notes.

If you're using Rebrief inside the desktop app, small back and forward buttons sit at the far left of the top bar so you can retrace your steps, just like a browser.
