Editing the clinical note
The note is yours to control. Rebrief drafts it for you as you work, but you stay in charge of every word: type over anything, undo a change, and tidy it up before it is finalized. This article covers how the note is written during the appointment, how to edit it, and where to find it afterward.
How the note is drafted during the appointment
While you are recording, Rebrief listens to the conversation and writes the clinical note for you in the note panel in real time. As new details come in, the note updates on its own.
When new text is added or changed, those lines are briefly highlighted so you can see what just updated. The highlight fades after a few seconds, so the note settles back into clean, readable text once you have had a chance to glance at it.
If the note follows a template, any parts that still need to be filled in appear in a lighter gray. Those are placeholders, not finished content. You can type over them to replace them, or let the note fill them in as the appointment continues.
Tip: Use the Template dropdown at the top of the note panel to set the structure the note follows. Pick the one that fits the appointment and the note fills into that shape as you speak.
Editing the note
You can edit the note directly. Click into the note panel and type, delete, or rewrite anything you like, the same way you would in any text editor. Your cursor stays where you left it even when new text is added elsewhere.
At the top of the note panel you will find two helpful controls:
- Undo and Redo buttons step back and forth through your recent changes, in case you remove something by mistake.
- A save status indicator shows "Saving…" while a change is being stored and "Saved" once it is safely recorded.
Note: You can edit while recording is still running. Drafting continues around your edits, so there is no need to stop recording to fix a line.
Autosave: you do not need a save button
There is no save button, and you do not need one. Rebrief saves your work automatically a moment after you stop typing. Watch the status indicator at the top of the note panel to confirm: it shows "Saving…" briefly, then returns to "Saved."
Because saving happens on its own, it is safe to keep working or move on once you see "Saved." Your edits and the assistant's drafting are kept together in the same note.
Where the finished note lives
After the appointment, the note becomes a document you can reopen any time under Documents. Each document is labeled with its date and the patient's name.
On the document page you can:
- Keep editing. The document opens in an editor that autosaves your changes. You will see "Saving…" and then the time of the last save.
- Use the assistant on a selection. Highlight any text in the document to open a small assistant toolbar. Choose Recall mode to ask a question about the appointment, or Edit mode to tell the assistant how to rewrite the selected text. In Edit mode, the rewrite is applied right into the document for you.
- Send the document. Use Send to share it securely by email.
- Delete the document if it was created in error. You will be asked to confirm, and this cannot be undone.
The same page also shows the original appointment note for reference — including the date, status, notation, and probing protocol — so you always have the unedited record alongside your working document.
