The live charting appointment

Everything you say during the appointment lands here. The screen splits into two halves — the clinical note on the left, the tooth and gum charts on the right — and both fill in on their own as you talk, so you can keep your hands and eyes on the patient.

How the screen is laid out

A single action strip runs across the top. Below it, the workspace splits into two columns:

• The note panel (left). Your clinical note for this appointment.
• The chart (right). The tooth chart, a periodontal summary, and the perio probing tables.

A thin divider sits between the two columns. Drag it left or right to give the note or the chart more room — handy when you're reviewing perio numbers versus reading the note.

The top strip

The strip carries the controls you reach for most:

• End / Resume — one control, two states: End stops listening right away and completes the appointment; Resume starts listening again, and the note you've built stays in place.
• End — finishes the appointment (covered below).
• Patient name and date of birth — type here to link or update the patient on this appointment. These save when you click away from the field.
• Copy, Share, Documents, and AfterCare — copy the note text, share the appointment record, generate a document, or generate a patient AfterCare summary.

While listening is active, the divider line under the strip ripples gently in time with the room's sound — a quiet "I'm hearing you" cue. When listening is paused or off, it's just a plain line.

The note panel

A Template dropdown sits at the top of the note panel. The template sets the structure the note follows — pick the one that fits the appointment and the note fills into that shape as you speak.

As you talk, the note writes itself. You can also type directly into the note at any time; your own edits and the spoken text live together in the same document. When new text arrives, the changed lines are briefly highlighted so you can see what just updated, then the highlight fades.

To the right of the template you'll see a status word:

• Saving… with a spinner — your note is being saved.
• Saved with a checkmark — everything is stored.

Undo and Redo buttons sit beside the status if you need to step a change back or forward.

Tip: If you see bracketed text like [name of patient] in a lighter color, that's an unfilled template placeholder. Speak the detail or type over it to fill it in.

The chart

The right column opens with a Legend bar showing what each tooth marking means (caries, composite, amalgam, crown, and so on). When you're dictating findings, a Cursor chip appears here showing which tooth the chart is currently on, and a Saving… note appears while chart changes are stored.

Below the legend:

• The tooth chart — upper and lower arches, with the tooth number under each tooth and a PSR bracket and code spanning each sextant. A tooth that was just updated flashes briefly so you can confirm the right one changed. Click any tooth to open its editor and adjust it by hand.
• The perio summary — four cards reading Mean PD, Sites ≥4mm, Sites ≥6mm, and BOP, each with a small fill bar. They recalculate live as probing depths come in; the Sites ≥4mm card tints orange and the Sites ≥6mm and BOP cards tint red once there are sites to flag.
• The perio tables — four grids (Upper Buccal, Upper Lingual, Lower Lingual, Lower Buccal) holding the per-site numbers. You can edit any cell directly.

Everything on this screen reads from the same record, so a finding you speak shows up in the chart, the perio summary, and — where relevant — the note, all at once.

Saving and ending

There's no Save button, and you don't need one. The note and the chart both save themselves automatically a moment after each change — that's what the Saving… / Saved indicators are telling you.

When the appointment is done, click End in the top strip. This stops listening, marks the appointment complete, and returns you to your dashboard. Because the note and chart have already saved on their own, your work is safe before you leave the screen.

Note: Ending stops listening immediately. If you come back to the visit, press Resume — your note and chart stay in place and capture picks back up.
