Completing onboarding
The first time you sign in, Rebrief asks you to finish a short setup before the rest of the app opens. This one-time step creates your clinic's workspace and saves a couple of charting preferences. Until it's done, a setup card sits over the dashboard and the screen behind it stays dimmed and locked.
Why setup comes first
Almost everything in Rebrief lives inside a clinic workspace: your patients, appointments, notes, and odontograms all belong to a clinic. Before you can chart, Rebrief needs to know which clinic you're working in. Finishing setup creates that workspace, makes you its administrator, and connects your account to it. That's why the dashboard stays locked until you're done.
Note: You only do this once. After your clinic exists, signing in takes you straight to the dashboard.
What you'll see
While Rebrief loads your account, the card shows a brief "Checking your account..." message. Once it's ready, the "Finish setting up your account" card appears with a few fields to fill in.
Finishing setup
Work through the setup card:
- Enter your clinic name. This becomes the name of your clinic's workspace. It can be up to 128 characters, and a counter shows how many you've used.
- Choose your specialty. Pick the option that best matches your practice from the dropdown (for example, General Dentistry).
- Pick your tooth notation. Choose FDI/ISO or UNS to match the numbering system you use when charting teeth. FDI/ISO is selected by default.
- Pick your probing convention. Choose Maxillary First, Facials First, or Custom Order to match how you record perio probing. The preset options each have a small diagram to help you decide, and Maxillary First is selected by default.
- Allow location (optional). Your browser may ask for your location so Rebrief can place your clinic on a map. This is completely optional, so you can deny it and setup still works the same way.
- Select "Finish setup." The button stays disabled until you've entered a clinic name and chosen a specialty. While it saves, it reads "Finishing setup..."
Tip: Don't overthink notation and probing here. These are your starting preferences, not permanent locks, so just choose what matches how you chart today.
What finishing setup unlocks
When setup finishes successfully, the card disappears and the dashboard becomes fully available. Behind the scenes, Rebrief:
- Creates your clinic workspace and adds you as its administrator.
- Starts you on the included starter plan.
- Saves your specialty, tooth notation, and probing preferences.
From here, the full app is open to you. You can start appointments, chart patients, and use the rest of Rebrief normally.
If something goes wrong
If the setup card shows an error instead of the form, select Retry to reload your account and try again. If you fill in the form and saving fails, a message appears explaining why. Fix what it mentions (for example, a missing clinic name or specialty) and select Finish setup again.
Note: If your account has already finished setup, Rebrief won't create a second clinic. It keeps you connected to your existing workspace so none of your data is lost.
