AI note-editing tools
When you open a document or an aftercare summary, you can highlight any part of the text to get help from the AI assistant. Select a passage and a small toolbar appears right over the editor, ready to either reword the selected text for you or answer a question about it.
Open the AI toolbar
- Open the document or summary you want to work on.
- Click into the editor and select the text you want to work with (click and drag, or double-click a word).
- The toolbar appears over the editor. It shows the text you selected at the top, so you can confirm you grabbed the right passage.
To close it, click the x button, press Escape, or click anywhere outside it.
Note: The toolbar only opens when you select text inside the editable area. The appointment note shown lower down the page is read-only, so selecting text there does nothing.
Choose what you want the assistant to do
The toolbar has two modes. Pick one, type your instruction or question in the box, then press Send (or hit Enter).
Recall mode — ask a question
Recall mode is selected by default. Use it when you want an answer rather than an edit. Type a question and the assistant replies in a panel below the box. It treats the document, the appointment transcript, and your selection as read-only context, so nothing in your text changes. This is handy for quick checks like "What was discussed about this tooth?" without leaving the editor.
Edit mode — change the selected text
Switch to Edit mode when you want the assistant to rewrite the part you selected. Describe the change in plain language, and the assistant rewrites only that passage while leaving the rest of the document untouched.
Because you write the instruction yourself, you can ask for almost any kind of change, for example:
- "Rewrite this in clearer, more professional language."
- "Make this more concise" or "Expand this into a full paragraph."
- "Change the tone to be warmer for the patient."
- "Fix the grammar and spelling."
- "Translate this into French."
The assistant uses the surrounding document and the appointment transcript as context, so the rewrite stays consistent with the rest of the note.
Review and accept edits
In Edit mode, the rewrite is applied to your document so you can see it in place. Always read the result and confirm it says what you intend before relying on it. If it is not quite right, select the text again and send a follow-up instruction to refine it. Your changes are saved automatically as you work.
Tip: The assistant is a drafting aid. The clinician remains responsible for the accuracy of every note, so keep the original wording in mind while you review.
If you see a "reselect" message
In Edit mode, if the document changed between selecting your text and pressing Send, the assistant asks you to reselect the passage and try again. This protects you from an edit landing in the wrong spot. Just highlight the text once more and resend your instruction.
Note: A short wait after pressing Send is normal while the assistant works. The button shows "Thinking..." until the result comes back.
